The weekend programmed sought to revive one of the country’s most famous sport from the 1960's to the 80’s but whose fortunes have declined seriously since the 90's.The Gambia was represented by Ogiss Nyassi and Boy Bambara while Boy Joof, Bebeh Manga, Amadou Camara, Toubabujor, Confiance and John Sina represented Senegal in the minor combats.
The eventual winners of the minor combats are as follows Boy Joof, Confiance and Amadou Camara while the combat between Boy Bambara of the Gambia and Bebeh Manga of Senegal ended in a draw.
The major combat was between Dunkhaf and Gambien and Gambien was the winner.
This wrestler known as Gambien is so-called because of his roots. He's a Gambian based in Senegal where the sport of wrestling has more prominence and enjoys far greater patronage by sponsors and enthisiasts than in the Gambia.
Present at the weekend porgramme were the Secretary of State for Youths and Sports, Secretary of State for Tourism and Culture, the Mayor of Banjul and Chief of Army Defence staff Major General Lang Tombong Tamba.
