Ebrima Sohna’s Sandefjord began their stay in La Manga (Spain) with an impressive 1-0 win over fellow Norwegian Tippeliga (Premier League) side Aalesund in a preseason friendly on Monday night.

Senegalese striker Malick Mane got the winning goal in the 53rd minute after a solo effort.

Sohna and new midfield partner the Brazilian Marciano signed from Bosnia during the January shopping window had a good outing at the middle of the park and the victory is Sandefjord’s third in succession over fellow Premier League since they started their preseason.

Their only defeat in the preseason to date was a shocked 1-0 defeat to Norwegian lower league side FC Hornefoss.

The win was very important for Patrick Walker’s team and even a Danish television presenter Davy Watne of the TV2Spoten that purchased the rights to show all Sandefjord preseason games predicted the team to be a possible surprise in this year’s battle for the Tippeliga.

Sandefjord just won promotion from the second tier of Norwegian football last season but according to Watne, the team could be a surprise challenger to win the championship this season.

“Sandefjord is a very good side and they are a team that works for each other and after today (Monday’s) game, they’ve shown that they could be a possible surprise in this year's battle for the Tippeliga’ Davy Watne said.

Sandefjord open their 2009 campaign with a home tie against Tijan Jaiteh's SK Brann on March the 15th also marking the opening day of the new 16 team season.
