Lamin Jambang, the head coach of Gunjur zonal team, praised his players' efforts despite seeing them beaten by Banjul in the semi-final of the Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Perpetual Zonal Championship on Saturday.

Banjul struggled to contain the in-form Gunjur side in the regulation which ended in a stalemate. But as luck would have it, the shaky Banjul side went ahead to win 3-2 in a post-match penalty shoot - to the disappointment of Coach Jambang and hundreds of Gunjur fans in attendance. “Definitely, we didn’t deserve to lose this game because we were the better side. But so is football, we have to accept it,” Coach Jambang told Observer Sports in a post-match interview.

“I must praise my players because they did wonders. We only lost because of the penalty shoot-out which is a lottery.” Gunjur entered their first semi-final tie on Saturday on the back of an impressive display in the group stage, where they collected 7 valuable points out of a possible 9. And as he reflected on his side’s overall performance in the eight-zone tournament, Coach Lamin Jambang insisted they would go back home with their heads high up despite the narrow miss in the weekend.
