Bakau United scales to the top
Bakau United’s impressive start to the 2009 Gambia Premier Division season continued with a convincing 3-1 win over last season’s Second Division Champions Brikama United at the Serekunda East Mini-Stadium on Saturday.
Former Janbanjelly United striker Ebrima Camara scored a perfect hat trick to give the team that last season narrowly avoided relegation a 3-0 lead before Brikama grabbed a late consolation through Ebou Kanteh in the 83rd minute.
Camara scored a goal with both legs and a header to complete a his hat trick and go clear top on the scoring chart with four goals from five games.
Brikama should have taken the lead after only one minutes when Alagie Bah shoots wide from a Landing Badjie cross before he missed a one to one situation with keeper Alagie Nyabally who saved to his right in the 24th minute and were punished for those misses.
Talismanic forward Pa Amadou Gai alias Daddy Gai made a wonderful back heel for Ebrima Camara to opened the scorings in the 32nd minute with a left footed tap from six yards out.
Daddy who and his partner after the Saturday victory now scored seven goals between them was guilty for a miss with the goal at his mercy as he shoots over from six yards out in the 50th minute.
But four minutes later, Bakau increased their lead as Lamin Fofana sends in a swinging cross that was headed in by Ebrima Camara for his second of the night even though the keeper got a hand to it but was not enough to keep it out.
Brikama pushed forward to try and salvage something from the game but any hope of a dramatic comeback was dashed away in the 75th minute as they were caught on the break.
Bakau cleared their line from a Brikama goal opportunity from a corner and the ball kindly felled to Ebrima Camara in his own half, he collected the ball and went past the last defender before rounding up the keeper and scored from an unguarded net to complete his hat trick.
In the 83rd minute, Brikama pulled a goal back after a defensive howler by the Bakau defence but was too little too late as it only proved to be a consolation.
Bakau now stay top of the Division with 11 points from an available 15 points after three victories and two draw and the second unbeaten remaining side with Sea View.
