Gamtel held while Samger secures win over Bakau

FA Cup winners Gamtel on Wednesday played out a goalless draw with Real de Banjul at the Banjul mini-stadium in week four of the GFA first division league.
The game started with some breathtaking football with both teams having an equal share of possession. The game sparked controversy in the 25 minute of the first half when Gamtel’s Hamang Conteh brought done Real de Banjul’s Modou Njie Sarr inside the box but the referee turned a blind eye to the event and let play to continue.

In week two of the Gambia Football Association division one [top tier] league, Gambia Ports Authority drew their second consecutive league match yesterday after been held by Samger FC to a goalless draw at the Serrekunda east mini stadium.
Ports Authority, who were champions in 2010 were without Peter Bonu Johnson, who has left to take charge of the senior national squad started the game with the eagerness to move forward and created few scoring chances in the process but failed to utilize any.
In the face of this intense pressure, Samger defender Buba Bojang brought down GPA’s striker Cherno Njie in the penalty box 18 minutes into the game. Yafaye Jadama stepped up to take the spot kick for the ferry boys, but Samger’s shot-stopper Modou Jarjou alias Papis denied him from scoring.
Two minutes later, Hatab Badjie delivered a fantastic 25 yard free kick but Modou Jarjou again saved for Samger punching the ball over the cross bar.

Two of the promoted teams in Gambian topflight football - Serrekunda United and Hawks on Wednesday drew level in their first game of the 2011/2012 GFA league season at Brikama mini-stadium.
Hawks, who met their relegation to the second division in the 2009/2010 GFA League season bounced back to the first division this year after winning the second division league season while Serrekunda United are debutants in Gambian topflight football.
The two sides met twice in the second division league last season with none of the sides managing to win in either of the meetings after playing out a 2-2 draw in the first round and 1-11 in the second round of last their last year’s fixtures.
It seems like these two teams shared the same strength as they drew again 1-1 at the box bar mini-stadium in Brikama. Hawks were not in shortage of experienced players as they had the likes of Robert Badjie [former Hakoah Amidar Ramat Gan F.C and Hapoel Jerusalem F.C and Gambia goal-keeper], their captain Pierre Gomez is a former Gambia U-20 defender and Modou Jagne [former SC Rheindorf Altach and SK Austria Kärnten striker] in the their team.

Young Africans made themselves and new coach Pa Samba Mbenga proud yesterday after a 2-1 win over Wallidan at the KG5 mini-stadium in the 2012 GFA league season opener.
The game started with both teams sharing possession with both teams looking focused. Young Africans came close to scoring in the opening 10th minute of the game through Saidou Badjie but his shot just went wide.
Wallidan’s Ismaila Singhateh scored the first goal of the season in the 13th minute through a defensive blunder among the Young Africans defence. His captain, Muhammed Kona was later booked thirteen minutes later because of a reckless challenge on a Young Africans player.
Young Africans Ebrima Njie should have leveled the scores for his team but he just squandered the chance by putting it wide.
