Kandji's goal not enough as his team loses

Striker Darren Mattocks scored a brace as Vancouver Whitecapsearned a comfortable 3-1 home win over the Houston Dynamo of Macoumba Kandji on Sunday.

The Jamaican-born marksman made it three goals in five MLS matches with a goal in each half against a disappointing Dynamo. The win takes the improving Whitecaps to fourth in the Western Conference while Houston drop to seventh in the east with their fourth defeat of the season.

Mattocks opened the scoring in the fourth minute turning in a cross from Lee Young-Pyo from the right past Dynamo keeper Tally Hall. The Whitecaps had to wait until the 66th minute for their second and it was Mattocks who struck again, finishing off a through ball from Ghanaian Gershon Koffie.

Seven minutes from time, Macoumba Kandji belted home a finish from a Brian Ownby cross, but it was not enough as Harvey scored four minutes later to restore the Whitecaps' two-goal advantage and dash any hopes of a comeback.

Kandji’s Dynamo will be at home to Dallas next.
