Jagne settling down easily in Mariehamn

Gambian striker Saihou Jagne saw 87 minutes of play for Veikkausliiga side IFK Mariehamn helping them record their first shut-out and first win of the young season at FC Haka.

The visitors were off to a flying start, taking the lead with just nine minutes played when Aleksei Kangaskolkka headed in a corner from Petteri Forsell. Haka were the better team for much of the first half, attempting valiantly to equalize but failing to push through to goal.

Jagne’s Mariehamn were again somewhat fortunate to net a second goal two minutes before the 60-minute mark, when a long throw-in landed near the upright, where Forsell was waiting to poke it over for the 2-0 lead.

The visitors clamped down for the final 30 minutes, doing well to protect their lead and earn their first win of the season.

Jagne played as a right offensive winger in a 4-2-3-1 lineup and the club’s director, Peter Matsson was more than pleased with the Gambian’s performance for the team.

Jagne’s Saarelaiset [The Islanders] are now right in the middle of the standings at sixth and will be back in action for the Veikkausliiga on Sunday when they host Demba Savage’s former team FC Honka at the Wiklöf Holding Arena but before then, a visit to Helsinki on Wednesday to face third-tier side IF Gnistan in the Quarter-finals of the Finnish Cup.
