Sainey out for 8-10 weeks

The left hamstring injury that Gambian midfielder Sainey Nyassi suffered during the Feb. 10 preseason match against Boston College has landed him on the New England Revolution’s disabled list to start the 2012 season, the team announced on Wednesday.

Sainey, who came off in the 20th minute of the match against the Eagles, will miss a minimum of the team’s first six matches. The earliest he can return to the field is the Revolution’s April 28th game against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena although he is expected to miss at least 8-10 more weeks with the injury.

The 23-year-old midfielder missed New England’s last 11 matches of the 2011 season with right MCL and right hamstring injuries. His last regular season appearance came on Aug. 6 vs. Chivas USA, a game which saw him play the entire 90.

Sainey played in 21 games for the Revs last season, coming off the bench in all but eight of them. He finished the season with one goal and no assists.
