Carayol interested Barnsley's boss

Barnsley manager Keith Hill has confirmed he tried to sign Bristol Rovers winger Mustapha Carayol following the departure of Ricardo Vaz Te to West Ham.

Vaz Te swapped Oakwell for Upton Park on transfer deadline day in January, leaving Hill with a hole in his attacking options. The Tykes boss looked at Carayol but was unable to complete a deal by the time the window slammed shut.

He told the Barnsley Chronicle: “He [Carayol] was someone that we looked at as a replacement for Ricardo but obviously it never happened.”

“He is someone I admired. He is spontaneous and has a predatory instinct.”
