Scorpions climb three places on FIFA rankings

The Scorpions of The Gambia have climbed three positions to 115 on the latest FIFA rankings which were released on Wednesday.
They didn’t play any matches in the period under review, but recorded a loss and draw before that.
On September 3rd, they lost 1-0 against Namibia at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek and on October 8th, they drew 1-1 against Burkina Faso at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. The Scorpions of Gambia are now ranked 115 in the world and slipped down a place in Africa after being ranked 30.
In the West African region, Cote d’Ivoire remains the highest ranked nation with a world ranking of 15 and first in Africa. They are followed by Ghana (23 in the world and 2 in Africa), Mali (44 in the world and 5 in Africa), Nigeria (56 in the world and 8 in Africa), Sierra Leone (64 in the world and 13 in Africa), Guinea (65 in the world and 14 in Africa), Senegal (68 in the world and 16 in Africa), Cape Verde Islands (69 in the world and 17 in Africa), Burkina Faso (75 in the world and 18 in Africa), Togo (94 in the world and 22 in Africa), Niger (111 in the world and 28 in Africa), Gambia (115 in the world and 30 in Africa), Liberia (125 in the world and 34 in Africa), Benin (136 in the world and 37 in Africa), Guinea-Bissau (166 in the world and 44 in Africa) and Mauritania who are bottom in the CAF rankings are ranked 203 in the world and 53 in Africa.
The Ivory Coast remain the top ranked African nation at 15 in the world. Ghana are second in Africa with a world ranking of 23, while Algeria are third with a world ranking of 36.
They are followed by Zambia (43), Mali (44) and Gabon, who climbed a massive 46 places to 45 in the world.
Libya are seventh in Africa after climbing 10 places to 53 in the world; while Nigeria is eighth in Africa after dropping 10 places to 56 in the world. Tunisia is ninth (56 in the world) and South Africa 10th (58 in the world).
Spain remain the top ranked team in the world while Germany move one place up to second, with the Netherlands dropping down to third. They are followed by Uruguay, England, Portugal, Brazil, Italy, Croatia and Denmark.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be issued on March 7, one week earlier than originally planned.
