Gamtel FC ran out victors in the Super CupCoach Mustapha Manneh has yet again guided Gamtel FC to add another trophy to their cabinet by claiming the 2010/2011 GFA Super Cup following their 3-1 post-match penalty shoot-out victory against League winner Brikama United on Saturday.

Gamtel, who are also called the Telecommunications Boys broke the deadlock in the 11th minute of the game through their prolific striker Assan Ceesay alias Torres who nodded home from a cross to give his side the lead.

Brikama United had a brilliant chance to level the scores through Bakary Daffeh but his poor effort from a free kick wasn’t enough to trouble Gamtel’s Musa Camara who is touted to be the next national team goal-keeper.

The league champions dominated the entire half with good passes and having a great share of possession but failed to create any positive outlook from their chances and failed to capitalize. The league champions, who are set to represent Gambia in the CAF champions league preliminary round next month found the leveler three minutes before the break through talismanic striker Foday Trawally who dinked a shot past keeper Musa Camara.

Minutes into the second period, Gamtel had a chance to increase their tally through Assan Ceesay but his powerful shot was saved by Brikama’s keeper Ebrima Bojang. Gamtel’s Ali Sowe also had a chance to put his side ahead through a free-kick but he failed to make contact with the ball allowing it to go out for a goal-kick.

Brikama United on the other side started exposing the Gamtel defence when Modou Jallow’s free-kick was tipped over by Musa Camara. The game ended on a 1-1 draw and it required another 30 minutes of extra-time to search for a victor but none were able to find the winner.

A penalty shoot-out was required to determine a winner and it ended 3-1 on the shoot-outs with Gamtel carrying the day and their keeper was the hero as he saved two spot kicks to ensure victory for his team.

In a separate development, the GFA 2011/2012 league will kick-start tomorrow Tuesday with Armed Forces taking on Real de Banjul and Young Africans battling it out with Wallidan.

The Super Cup finalists [Gamtel and Brikama United] take on each other in their first league game on Friday at the Banjul mini-stadium.
