Gambian international Omar Jawo has decided to extend his stay at Swedish Allsvenskan side Syrianska FC by signing a two-year contract extension deal.
Reports were that the 30-year-old defender was set to leave the Södertälje-based outfit following the end of his one year contract that he signed in the beginning of the 2011 Allsvenskan season with speculations suggesting that he will be moving to Trabzonspor in Turkey or Örebro SK.
An unsettled future seemed to await Jawo after the club’s director failed to offer him the chance to extend his deal and to add salt to injury, the club failed to renew the contract of six other players but Jawo was lucky not to be part of them. The Portland Timbers of Gambian Mamadou “Futty” Danso concluded their slate of four preseason games held during their training camp at The Home Depot Center by defeating the Chicago Fire 2-0.
Eric Alexander and Jorge Perlaza both found the back of the net, while Franck Songo’o assisted on both goals for the Timbers, who posted three wins and a draw over the four preseason contests in Carson, Calif.
Six different players contributed goals over the four games, while the Timbers outscored their opponents 8-1 and did not allow a goal over the final three-plus matches during their stay, logging an impressive span of 309 minutes without being scored upon.
“We’ve now played against four decent teams in preseason and conceded one goal,” said John Spencer, head coach of the Timbers. “For us, I’d rather be winning these games because it builds confidence and spreads a good spirit amongst the group.

Kujabi’s Hibs romped at home by Celtic

In a forgettable and horribly uncomfortable match, Pa Saikou Kujabi’s Hibernian were overpowered by an in-form Celtic team who chalked up a heavy and convincing win at Easter Road.
From the outset, Celtic were superior and that gulf showed in the final scoreline. There were flashes of encouragement from Hibs, but overall it was not good enough to halt the progress of Celtic.
Hibs conceded two avoidable goals inside the opening 21 minutes with Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper scoring for Celtic in a difficult and challenging first half. Then a minute into the second half Charlie Mulgrew scored from a free kick to give Celtic a three-goal advantage while Hooper made it four a few minutes later.

The Montreal Impact of Gambia international Sanna Nyassi ended its stint in California with a 0-0 draw against the NCAA’s UCLA Bruins, followed by a 3-1 win over Ventura Country Fusion at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California.
After playing a goalless draw versus UCLA, the Impact picked things up with a convincing display over the USL side. Brazilian midfielder Felipe opened the scoring at the 18th minute when he pounced on a loose ball in the 18-yard box. Midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic doubled the team’s lead when he got on the end of a Miguel Montaño cross, in the 44th minute.
Young forward Steven Miller scored the third goal, when he was put through on goal by Felipe, in the 64th minute. Ventura County Fusion did pull one back with a well-taken free-kick by Danny Berreira, in the 83rd minute. There was an overall sense of satisfaction during these two games for Impact head coach Jesse Marsch. Despite the initial result, he thought the players did well to end the camp in California on a positive note.
